Madrigal Chorale has been providing scholarships since 1955 when the first $300 scholarship awarded covered 75% of a year's tuition at Wayne State University! Since 1955, we have proudly awarded almost $70,000 to help support the musical talents of high school soloists.

In response to the decline in music and arts funding in the schools, the Board of Directors created the Madrigal Chorale High School Choral Competition in 2017 to award up to three $1,000 prizes to high school choral music programs in smaller schools throughout the tri-county area. Schools that applied submitted recordings that were adjudicated by a panel, comprised of Madrigal Chorale's artistic staff, select members, and professional musicians. In addition to the monetary award, winning choirs also participated in a choral clinic taught by members of our artistic staff and were featured in a miniconcert with Madrigal Chorale.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and safety protocols for high school choirs and singers in 2021 and 2022, our scholarship competition returned to a solo competition for two seasons. In upcoming seasons, Madrigal Chorale is planning to include both solo and group competitions.

If you are as passionate about supporting school choral music as we are, and would like to donate to our scholarship program, please contact us for further details.

This activity is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the
National Endowment for the Arts.
