Open Call for Art

The Madrigal Chorale invites artists working in all media to showcase their work in a collaboration between the visual and performing arts in conjunction with our Spring Rebirth Concert on May 20. Due to space constraints, this first ever exhibit will be informally curated by members of the chorale, who are seeking art with a fresh and unique perspective, with excellence as the common thread. Madrigal Chorale events draw a metro-Detroit audience representing a broad spectrum of knowledge and appreciation of the arts. 30% of all proceeds from the sale of the artwork will benefit the Madrigal Chorale.

Exhibition Location

The one day exhibit will be in the lobby of St. Owen Catholic Church, 6869 Franklin Rd, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301.

Reception

The opening reception of the Fine Arts Exhibition (open to the public) will be Friday, May 20 from 6:30 until 7:30 pm, when the concert will begin. Each exhibiting artist and a guest will receive complimentary admission to the concert. General concert admission is $20.00. The audience will be encouraged to vote for a People's Choice Award* and continue browsing the exhibit during the intermission and for 20 minutes following the end of the concert.

Eligibility

The application deadline is midnight May 1, 2022. There is no application fee, but artists will be asked to provide standing or table easels to display their work and to arrange to have it dropped off at the church between 10-12 on the morning of the concert. Display tables will be provided. Artists must arrange to pick up their work after the concert or the next morning between 10-12.

  • Opening Reception – May 20, 6:30-7:30 PM (no admission charge)

  • Concert with 20 minute intermission – May 20, 7:30-9:25 PM

  • Closing – May 20, 9:45 PM

  • Pick up date – May 20 or 21

How to apply:

Please submit digital image files as attachments (not embedded in the body of the email. Emails with embedded images are very large and put your submission at risk of not being received until after a deadline has passed.) Please be sure to include and answer the following prompts in the body of your email.

  1. Your Name

  2. Title of Work – a good rule to follow is naming your artwork file (that you are attaching to the email) the same title you list here so we're not guessing which “IMG####” is the Abstract Cat amongst a sea of abstract cats.

  3. The year it was created.

  4. Finished dimensions of work (this would include the frame if the work will be framed).

  5. Materials/Medium – what is the work made out of?

  6. Price – all works must be for sale.

  7. Artist Statement – tell us about this piece!

Artwork will be chosen from submitted entries by a panel of Madrigal Chorale members on the basis of creative excellence and quality of execution. All works must be original and completed within the last five years.

*The winner of the People's Choice Award will receive a gift bag and 2 season tickets for the 2022-23 Madrigal Chorale concerts.
